Welcome to the Team!

Hello there! You’re now part of the Cerebro team, and we’re very excited to have you courtside! As a Cerebro statistician, you have the opportunity to watch Blue Chip recruits from one of the best seats in the gym.

These recruits will go on to lead top-tier college programs, and some might even emerge as stars at the pro level in the future. Your basketball acumen and statistician abilities are critical to Cerebro’s mission.

About Cerebro Sports

We are bringing the power of advanced player evaluation and predictive analytics to sports professionals, athletes, and fans worldwide. With the largest database of box score stats on the planet, Cerebro Sports is democratizing access to insights that were once only reserved for pros, empowering everyone to make smarter decisions and see elite basketball talent as soon as they start playing ball.

Cerebro’s database is not only the most comprehensive, but the easiest to understand and analyze because of our custom proprietary metrics. Our tools standardize analytics across the board, whether you want to learn about youth, college, or pro athletes, making it simple to apply stats from one level or one league to another.

The Cerebro Way

Our proprietary metric suite delivers insight and value in quick, easy-to-read formats, and scales to every level of the game. The suite features two overall ratings (RAM and C-RAM) and five skill scores (5-Metric Suite). Together, these seven metrics comprise a strong introduction to a player and his or her style of play, context, strengths, and weaknesses.

01

C-RAM

Our Context Metric

C-RAM contextualizes a player’s performance within the event he/she is playing in. As RAM measures total overall performance, C-RAM measures performance compared to the average. Grading a player in this fashion offers immediate and important contextual insights as competitions feature all varieties of talent, levels, and ages.

02

RAM

Our Base Unit

RAM takes box score stats to create a single, clean performance score. Carefully balancing efficiency, volume, and per-minute impact, RAM is a metric that looks and feels like basketball. A player’s performance for the event is graded on a scale from 0 to 1000+ with no hard ceiling, allowing truly exceptional performances to speak for themselves.

03

5-Metric Suite

See Next 5 Cards

As the RAM & C-RAM represent the Who, What, When, and Where of a player’s performance, the 5MS (5 Metric Suite) represents the Why and How. Each skill score is graded on the same 100+ point scale: 60+ = Good | 80+ = Great | 100+ = Elite.

04

PSP

Player Scoring Prowess

PSP is our scoring metric - blending the two major components of scoring - volume and efficiency - to create a role-neutral representation of scoring ability.

05

3PE

Three-Point Efficiency

3PE is, as you may have guessed, our three-point shooting metric. 3PE can place high percentage, low volume shooters on a continuum alongside low percentage, high volume shooters.

06

FGS

Floor General Skills

FGS is the metric we have built to explore passing. FGS can, similarly to PSP, better frame both high and low usage creators for their positive outcomes relative to role expectations, within a league context or grading against a team’s historical performance.

07

ATR

Around The Rim

ATR is comprised of the traditional around the basket indicators for good around-the-rim play – offensive and defensive rebounds, blocks, fouls and 2-point efficiency. Back to the basket bigs who do most of their production around the basket tend to score the highest.

08

DSI

Defensive Statistical Impact

DSI is an all-in-one defensive metric that focuses on events creation - combining possession-winning actions (steals, blocks, offensive rebounds) against defensive efficiency (fouls).

Consistency above all.

When in doubt, award the player the stat. If it is a 50–50 decision on an assist, credit the assist. This is not about padding statistics—it is about maintaining a consistent standard so an assist in Arizona is the same as an assist in Georgia.

Uniformity where possible

Be more lenient than stringent when it comes to stats. Watch the caller training video sent before your event, and reach out to Ben Dobson with methodology questions.
